What are the benefits of joining Animation Blogspot?
There are several main benefits to joining the Animation Blogspot community: (1) It’s free. No setup fees, monthly hosting fees or bandwidth fees; (2) It’s stable. We use WordPress as the basic underlying blog architecture, which is one of the most widely used and supported systems available; (3) A centralized blogging community devoted to animation makes it easier to find others – and to be found; (4) Free publicity within Animation Blogspot and across the Animation World Network of affiliate sites, newsletters, press releases, RSS feeds, and so on. (Being associated with AWN.com, the largest online publisher of animation and visual effects resources, has its perks.)
Can anyone blog on Animation Blogspot?
Well, yes and no. Anyone can setup or move their blog onto the Animation Blogspot system, but their blog must have a demonstrated focus related to animation, visual effects, video gaming and other digital arts. We’re looking for people who work in or are enthusiasts about animation and related forms of art and entertainment. Everyone who signs up provides a description of what their blog is about and what they intend to publish. Animation Blogspot editors have the final say on whether or not a blogger gets to join the community. This decision-making is not meant to be divisive and is not designed to determine whether a person’s blog would be “popular” or not. We want to ensure that participants are first and foremost serious about blogging and can demonstrate their blogging focus is somehow rooted, at least in part, in our community.
How do I import my existing blog into Animation Blogspot?

Note: If you have a unique domain name for your blog, you can redirect the domain to point to your Animation Blogspot URL.
How do I modify my blog template or add my own?
To choose the theme template for your blog, click on the “Presentation” tab in the top navigation of your Animation Blogspot administrative account. Click on a theme template and it automatically updates the presentation of your live blog. Use the built-in Theme Editor, or Customize options (if available), to tailor the look of your blog. If there is a special WordPress theme that you would like to use which is not listed or that you have developed for yourself, please let us know and we can help to install it for you.
How can I embed videos from other sites on my blog?
It is common practice among bloggers to upload and host their movies (pencil tests, animation, etc.) as part of free online services like YouTube. Such video-sharing sites provide html code to embed your movies on other sites, including your blog. Not only will people be able to find your work via the YouTube and Google Video searches, but you can direct people from your YouTube library of movies to your Animation Blogspot blog.
To incorporate videos from other sites like YouTube, you will need to turn off the rich text editor when writing blog posts. Within your administrative account, click on the “Users” tab in the top navigation. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and deselect the “visual rich editor” box under Personal Options. Subsequently, when writing blog posts, you will be able to copy and paste the html code provided by video-sharing sites to embed videos on your blog. (Of course, you can always turn the rich text editor back on when writing other blog posts, but when publishing blog posts to embed your videos, the rich text editor should be off.)
Another simple way to incorporate videos into your blog is to make use of the Anarchy Media Player. Click on the “Plugins” tab in the top navigation of your administrative account. Click on the activate button for the Anarchy Media Player. Now, when writing blog posts, all you will need to do is click on the button for “Embed players.” A pop-up message will allow you to paste the URL for the webpage with the video you want to show. This works for Google Video, YouTube, Metacafe, iFilm, AtomFilms, MySpace and Revver. For sites like DailyMotion, you can copy and paste the embed html code. (Note: With the Anarchy Media Player plugin turned on, you can still embed videos from sites like Veoh, but just without the assistance of the “Embed player” button. Copy and paste the embed html code directly into the body of your blog post.)
How do I manage images in my blog post?
When writing a blog post, you can upload images to your image library. It is recommended that your images be “Web friendly,” meaning that they are saved with as small a file size as possible. Small file sizes allow your images to load quicker on the page, and make your blog accessible to more visitors. Also, having smaller file sizes helps to save on diskspace for your account.
When uploading images to your blog, be sure to give them a title. This will serve as the image’s caption. Otherwise, the image’s file name will appear below the image (which may not be the desired title). For images that are already published on your blog, you can select them in your blog post editor, click on the tree icon in the rich text editor menu, and then update the image description/caption.
(Note: To turn on/off the rich text editor when writing blog posts, click on the “Users” tab in the top navigation of your administrative account. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and check the “visual rich editor” box under Personal Options.)
For people to click on images in your blog post to see a larger, original version, you should write your post using the rich text editor. Click on an image in your image library, and a list of options will pop up. You can click on the options to toggle between different choices. Click on “Using Thumbnail” to change the option to “Using Original.” Then click on “Not Linked” to change the option to “Linked to Image.” Next, click on “Send to Editor” to place the image in the post editor. (Click on “Close Options” when you are done.) Once an image is in the body of your post, you can click on the image to highlight/select it. Grab a corner of the image to scale it down to a smaller version of the original. When you publish your blog post, the scaled-down version of your image will serve as a kind of thumbnail linking to the larger, original version of the image.
When an image is selected in your post editor, you can also click on the tree icon in the rich text editor menu to choose how to align the image in your post.
Why is there a superbanner and vertical banner ad on my blog?
These ads help Animation Blogspot remain a free service and also directly support the animation community. Each blog has two standard ad positions integrated into its blog pages. One is a 728×90 pixel superbanner at the top of the blog page, and the other is a 135×240 pixel vertical banner in the side column of the blog page. The top-page 728×90 ad is controlled by Animation Blogspot. Every quarter, 5% of net ad revenue generated by this ad position is donated to animation community-related organizations. The vertical banner is used exclusively for promoting participating blogs. It is a shared position, delivering free ads that bloggers provide to us for the purpose of cross-promoting their blogs throughout the Animation Blogspot. Each blogger who provides a promotional ad shares equally in the total number of ad deliveries. Though we require these ad positions, we do not preclude you from running any other ads on your blog, such as Google AdSense.
How can I promote my blog, or have greater exposure?
To promote yourself within the Animation Blogspot, you can categorize your blog in different communities. Within your administrative account, click on the “Options” tab in the top navigation, then the “Blogspot Categorization” sub-tab. Check the communities that apply to your blog. If you think your blog should belong in a category we don’t yet have listed, by all means, contact us and we’ll take your suggestion under advisement.
You can also promote your blog by creating a vertical banner ad that will run on the Animation Blogspot and across the Animation World Network. The specs for the vertical banner ad: JPEG or GIF, 135×240 pixels, 72dpi, total file size not exceeding 35kb. Send your ad to: info@animationblogspot.com. For more detailed information, click here.
What is the Daily Sketch?
When writing in your blog, you can manage your posts by organizing them into different categories that you define. At times, the Animation Blogspot team may create special sections on the Animation Blogspot homepage to highlight specific content from the community’s members. One such ongoing Animation Blogspot homepage section is known as “Daily Sketch.” If you create a category in your blog titled “Daily Sketch” and use the category to showcase your artwork, then these posts will have the opportunity to show up directly on the Animation Blogspot homepage where such content is promoted.
How do I become a Featured Blogger?
The Animation Blogspot team may periodically invite bloggers to become part of the Featured Blogs section that is accessible from the Animation Blogspot homepage. Generally speaking, these bloggers are established or renowned animation artists, producers, historians, educators, commentators, or regular contributors to other Animation World Network publications. For more information on becoming a featured blogger, please contact us.
How much storage space does my blog have?
All bloggers are allocated 100 megabytes of free blog diskspace without fees for any bandwidth usage or hosting services. If you feel you need more space, just let us know.
Note: Depending on your needs, it may benefit you to host your images or videos using the free services of sites such as YouTube or Flickr, and then to embed your media on your Animation Blogspot blog.
What kind of content can I put on my blog?
We respect freedom of speech and the bloggers’ responsibility for the content they choose to publish. While we feel that censoring this content is contrary to our goals and to the belief in freedom of expression, it may become necessary to take steps to curb abuses that threaten our blogging community. While we have no obligation to monitor anyone’s blog content, we have the unrestricted right to do so. Just because someone doesn’t like something you publish doesn’t mean we will do anything about it. But, if we feel we should, we will.
Due to the nature of a blogging community, you or any other blogger may carry content that some reader may find offensive, inaccurate, inappropriate and/or misleading. We expect you to use proper judgment and common sense in publishing your own blog, as well as when visiting the blogs of others. We do not endorse, support, represent or guarantee the accuracy, truthfulness or reliability of any content or communication you or anyone else posts or is published on the Animation Blogspot. We do not claim any ownership of, and take no responsibility for, any 3rd party content. You are solely responsible for any and all liability with respect to your content.
